Sellicks Beach Residential Concept
This contemporary residential home has been designed for a beach front allotment overlooking the stunning Sellicks Beach in South Australia. The timber decking entry from the street leads you through a beautiful private courtyard, providing shelter from the ocean winds, to the front door of the house. Step inside to the entry hall with a refined timber staircase, elevator and views into another internal courtyard that provides shelter from the very strong south-easterly summer winds. Also on the ground floor are a large family room / cinema, and two generous bedrooms with a shared ensuite. The laundry, powder room and large garage with boat storage complete this level of the home. The first floor contains a large open plan living, dining and kitchen with outstanding views over the beach and down the gulf to Myponga Beach with Rapid Head in the distance. Two more large bedrooms each with their own ensuites are also on this floor, and a large front balcony provides a generous outdoor space for the bbq facilites and outdoor entertaining.
The house has been designed to address northern winter sun, cooling ocean sea breezes, and shelter from the very strong local south easterly winds. A large undergound rainwater tank provide generous water storage, and the home has been designed on an economical structural grid to contain building costs. The sharp-edged rendered walls combined with the soft timber cladding give the home a balanced coastal material palette. Careful use of hardwood timber battens provide shelter and shading where required, and the home is complemented by low maintenance, drought and salt tolerant plantings.
